Forest Weather – Understanding and Taking Action
Weather conditions play a major role in the outbreak and spread of bushfires.
Our Forest Weather Map, updated daily based on public data from Météo-France and the prefectures, summarises for each department the Expected danger level for tomorrow and the day after tomorrow taking into account:
forecasts for temperature, humidity and wind;
the degree of dryness of the soil and vegetation.
Four colours make it possible to identify the potential risk at a glance:

| Green | Low | Recent rainfall and humidity reduce the risk, though they do not eliminate it entirely. |
| Yellow | Moderate | The conditions are not particularly unfavourable, but a fire could quickly become a problem in the local area. |
| Orange | High | Heat, drought or wind significantly increase the likelihood of fires and the speed at which they spread. |
| Red | Very high | Even the slightest slip-up can spiral out of control; the utmost vigilance is required. |
Important: This map does not show current fires; it estimates how easily a fire could start and spread.
Follow these simple steps to prevent fires
Barbecues : Install them on a hard surface, away from any vegetation, and keep a fire-extinguishing device within easy reach.
Cigarettes : Do not smoke in woodland areas; ensure your cigarette ends are fully extinguished before disposing of them in an ashtray.
Work involving sparks : cutting, welding, clearing undergrowth… keep them away from dry grass and have a fire extinguisher to hand.
Storage : Keep firewood, gas cylinders and flammable materials away from your home and from vegetation.
What should you do if a fire breaks out?
Alert immediately 112, 18 or 114 (for people with hearing impairments), giving as precise a location as possible.
Take shelter in a building that has been cleared of undergrowth; the vehicle is not a safe haven.
Stay up to date through the local authorities and follow their instructions to the letter.
Local restrictions and everyone’s responsibility
Depending on the situation, prefects and mayors may restrict restricting access to mountain ranges, banning the use of fire, or restricting certain types of work. Always check your prefecture’s website before undertaking any activities: failure to comply with these orders may result in a fine of up to 750 €.
