Preamble
FeuxdeForet.fr is a community-led platform for reporting, providing information and preventing wildfires in France. It relies on public participation and aims to protect people, natural areas and the emergency services by disseminating reliable, non-operational information intended for the general public.
The FeuxdeForêt mobile app, available on iOS (App Store) and Android (Google Play), offers the same reporting and viewing features as the website. This policy applies to all content published via the site feuxdeforet.fr and via the mobile app, regardless of the platform used.
This charter sets out the rules for posting and the moderation principles designed to ensure the service is used responsibly and respectfully.
1. The purpose of moderation
To ensure the reliability of the alerts issued.
To help prevent fires by raising public awareness.
To protect natural areas, biodiversity, local residents and the staff involved.
To limit the dissemination of sensitive or inaccurate information.
Provide information intended for the general public rather than operational information, so as never to interfere with the work of the emergency services.
2. What you can post
Reports can be submitted via the website feuxdeforet.fr or via the FeuxdeForêt mobile app (iOS / Android). They must meet the following criteria:
Direct observation or information provided by an identified trusted individual.
Precise location : correct positioning on the map and indication of the local authority.
Clear description : smoke, flames, vegetation affected, proximity to homes or sensitive areas.
Useful photo : a recent photograph taken by you, with no faces or number plates visible (in accordance with the GDPR — personal data protection).
For information purposes only : The platform is not an emergency service. For any urgent reports, please call 18 or the 112.
3. What we moderate or reject
The following are systematically moderated, deleted or blocked:
Reports that are clearly false, exaggerated or repetitive.
Posts that are mocking, defamatory, insulting or hateful.
Operational information on the rescue operation (locations, movements, strategies).
Messages containing personal data without explicit consent.
Photographs or videos that are intrusive, offensive or undermine people’s dignity.
The misuse of the website or app for political, commercial or activist purposes.
4. The process for validating an alert
Every report submitted via the website or the app is processed using one of the following two procedures:
Case 1 — Automatic validation
If the automated analysis deems the report to be reliable (consistent location, compliant content, no abuse detected), it is published immediately.
Case 2 — Validation by the community and the moderation team
Where a report requires further verification, it is submitted to the user community, who can confirm it or provide additional information.
The moderation team may also carry out a final check before publication.
In both cases, if the application is rejected, no notification is sent to the applicant.
Anti-abuse systems are active at all times across all submission channels.
5. Messages relating to a report
Any visitor, whether registered or not, can post a comment on a published sighting report. These comments can provide further information, or confirm or refute a sighting.
Messages are subject to the same moderation process as reports.
The same content rules as those set out in Articles 2 and 3 apply to posts. In the event of non-compliance, the post will be removed without notifying the author.
6. Our mission: providing information to promote prevention
FeuxdeForet.fr and the FeuxdeForêt mobile app are not official alert systems, nor are they tools for coordinating emergency services.
Our mission is to provide the public with useful information, in order to:
Encourage vigilance
Avoiding risky behaviour
Documenting the progression of fires and their impact
Raise the alarm without causing panic
Respect rescue operations without jeopardising them
6. The role of moderators
The moderators ensure that:
The validation and correction of reports received via the website and the app.
The removal of abusive content and sensitive data.
The balance between the speed of dissemination and the reliability of information.
Protecting the reputation and work of the emergency services.
They are independent; they are neither law enforcement nor emergency services, and have no operational links with the SDIS or the prefectures.
7. Your rights
In accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR — EU Regulation 2016/679) and the French Data Protection Act, you have the following rights:
The right to access, rectify and erase your personal data.
The right to appeal against a moderation decision via the contact form available on the website or in the app.
The right to lodge a complaint with the CNIL (National Commission for Information Technology and Civil Liberties).

8. Sanctions
Penalties are graded according to the seriousness of the breaches and whether they are repeated:
Disclaimer : content corrected or rejected.
Temporary block : in the event of repeated abuse or failure to comply with the charter following a warning.
Suspension or permanent ban : in the event of serious breaches or proven repeat offences, on the website and on the app.
Reporting to the relevant authorities : Any deliberate false report may result in the person making it being held liable under civil or criminal law.
9. Updating the charter
This charter may be amended in response to user feedback and the needs of the service. Any substantial changes will be notified to registered users by email and published on the website, along with the date on which they come into effect. Decisions regarding updates are the responsibility of the Board of Directors of the Feux de Forêt Association.
It applies to any report, comment or content published on feuxdeforet.fr or via the FeuxdeForêt mobile app (iOS / Android).
