Perpignan (66): municipal police open fire
During the night between Tuesday and Wednesday, officers from the Perpignan municipal police gave chase to a vehicle travelling at high speed and in the wrong direction in Perpignan city centre.
Faced with the police, the driver refused to stop and rammed into the patrol car; an officer avoided the collision, drew his service weapon and fired twice. The reckless driver then collided with a private vehicle before finally crashing into a house.
The suspect is a 17-year-old man without a driving licence. The vehicle itself was stolen. He was brought before a court and subsequently released under judicial supervision whilst the police complete their investigation.
The public prosecutor, for his part, stated that there was no doubt that the shooting was in self-defence. This marked the first real-world use of the new 9mm Glock 17s, which had entered service just two days earlier.
