Southern Corsica: Firefighters from the Hérault region rescue a man with a heart condition

HELICOPTER RESCUE. The communication campaign launched at the start of the summer by SDIS 34, ‘Firefighter for a day, firefighter for life’, is particularly relevant right now: during the night between Monday and Tuesday, on the SNCM car ferry bringing the Occitanie column back to the mainland from its mission in Corsica, a passenger suffered a heart attack at around 11 pm. The captain called on the Hérault fire service personnel, and in particular the doctor and nurse from SDIS 34 who were part of the detachment, to treat the seriously ill passenger. Hijacked boat The vessel had to be diverted from its course to allow the South Corsica Civil Protection helicopter, the Dragon 2A, to carry out a helicopter winch rescue of the victim in the middle of the night for their transfer to Ajaccio Hospital, under the watchful eye of the firefighters on board, who helped to facilitate the operations to secure and winch the victim to safety. The Occitanie contingent – comprising SDIS 34, SDIS 30 and SDIS 11 – arrived in Marseille on Tuesday a few hours behind schedule, but had succeeded in saving a passenger’s life.
