On Sunday evening, a 25-year-old Foreign Legionnaire took his own life with his assault rifle at the Le Boulou toll booth on the A9 motorway. The soldier’s nationality has not been specified by the Armed Forces General Staff; since 2014, he had been posted to the 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment based in Nîmes. An investigation has been launched to determine the reasons behind his actions. Operation Sentinelle was launched following the attacks in January 2015 to tackle the terrorist threat.
