A wildfire has been reported in the commune of Montbazin, between Gigean and Poussan in the Hérault department.

For your safety, please avoid the area. The fire brigade are currently tackling the fire.

Fire brought under control; 40 hectares of vegetation destroyed

Wednesday, 7.52 pm: The fire has flared up again; two AirTractors are on the scene

11.30 pm: The fire has been brought under control; it has swept through around 30 hectares of scrubland. Four outbuildings and three cars have been destroyed by the fire. A more precise figure for the area affected will be assessed in the coming days. The fire service’s efforts succeeded in halting the fire before it reached the homes in Gigean, and in protecting and saving more than 30 houses that were directly threatened, as well as one greenhouse. Several hundred hectares of Mediterranean woodland were saved.

11.13 pm: Several homes were destroyed by fire

200 firefighters are on the scene, forming seven GIFF units to tackle the fire. Several medical teams and a command post have been deployed. In total, no fewer than 130 vehicles are working together to tackle this fire.
