A fire is currently burning in the commune of Saint-Médard-en-Jalles, in Gironde (33). The fire service is on the scene with significant resources. According to our information, around ten hectares have already gone up in smoke.

Fire monitoring:

10.00 pm: The fire is reported to have spread across 100 hectares of vegetation. The Civil Protection Service’s Dash aircraft carried out a total of six water drops before returning to base. Around a hundred firefighters have been mobilised.

6.50 pm: The fire has been brought under control; the fire brigade is being supported by one water-bombing aircraft from the Civil Protection Service. So far, 80 hectares have been destroyed.

6.20 pm: The area burnt is estimated at 60 hectares.

6.00 pm: Civil Protection arrives at the site with a Dash-8

17:32: The fire is reported to have spread across around 50 hectares; water-bombing aircraft are expected to arrive as reinforcements within the next few minutes. The plume of smoke is visible from over 10 km away.

4.56 pm: 20 hectares of vegetation have been burnt and several more are reportedly at risk; strong winds are blowing in the area.
