A fire broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Champsaur region, in Saint-Bonnet-en-Champsaur, in the Hautes-Alpes. No fewer than 75 firefighters have been on the scene since Saturday afternoon.

This Sunday morning, the fire service, assisted by the gendarmerie, carried out an aerial reconnaissance mission by helicopter to identify the hotspots of the fire. According to our colleagues at BFMTV, ground forces were then deployed to attack the accessible areas.

The rain we’d been hoping for

The authorities are mainly hoping for a spell of rain that could help bring the fire under control. Rain is forecast for this Wednesday. In the meantime, the fire brigade will remain on standby to monitor the situation once the fire has been fully brought under control.

More than ten fires were recorded in the Champsaur area in less than 72 hours. An investigation was launched on Thursday 24 March. The focus is now on the possibility of arson.
