To combat forest fires, the mayor of Langlade, a small town near Nîmes in the Gard department, has decided to issue fines to anyone smoking in their car or in certain public spaces. The by-law was signed on 17 June.
Given that his area has been particularly at risk of forest fires in recent days and that the local authorities have not had time to carry out brush-clearing work, the mayor of this small town has taken an unprecedented decision.
The by-law prohibits smoking in all motor vehicles, as well as in several areas of the municipality. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in a fine of €15 until 31 July.
