A major fire has been reported in the town of Argelès-sur-Mer, near Valmy Castle (66).
6.40 pm - The fire has been brought under control; it has burnt across 2 hectares. A total of 90 firefighters from SDIS 66 were at the scene, along with aerial resources which carried out 20 water drops.
3.50 pm - New photos sent by witnesses at the scene via the Feux de Forêt app, in which we can see a water-bombing aircraft belonging to the French Civil Protection flying over the affected area.
3.40 pm - According to several witnesses, the fire is particularly fierce. It is believed to be located above Valmy Castle. At present, nearly 90 firefighters are already on the scene, along with at least three forest fire response teams (GIFF).
Each GIFF consists of a command vehicle, four lorries designed to tackle wildfires, and a water tanker capable of supplying water to four lorries.
3.38 pm - The fire was contained on our real-time fire map. The fire is being fanned by the tramontane, a prevailing wind in the area.
