A major fire has been reported in the commune of Cerbère in the Pyrénées-Orientales department (66).

For your own safety, please avoid the area and ensure that the emergency services can gain access.

FOLLOW-UP:

SATURDAY 5 AUGUST

11.00 am - The fire has now spread across 435 hectares. More than 200 Spanish firefighters are at the scene, supported by around 50 French firefighters.

FRIDAY 4 AUGUST

11.45 pm - 400 hectares have gone up in smoke since the fire started. The French fire brigade has been relieved so that they can tackle the fires in the Pyrénées-Orientales.

10.00 pm - According to the latest figures, 200 hectares have now been burnt. More than 200 Spanish firefighters are on site, supported by around 40 French firefighters. The fire is still burning.

8.15 pm - The fire is still burning; 150 hectares have been burnt, and around 700 are at risk. Around 50 Spanish firefighters are at the scene, supported by around 40 French firefighters.

5.22 pm - Videos from witnesses.

5.00 pm - National air assets are deployed in the area.

4.55 pm - Several reports have been sent via the “Feux de forêt” app. The fire broke out in the municipality of Portbou in Spain and is heading towards the French border. The wind in the area is strong.
