In Missouri, extreme winter conditions have led to some surprising incidents, even affecting the emergency services.
A fire engine, which had been called out following an accident involving a car and a fire hydrant, lost control on an icy road in Imperial, skidding spectacularly without causing any injuries or major damage to buildings.
Another lorry, which was attempting to keep the roads clear by spreading salt, also fell victim to patches of ice, crashing into a supermarket; the driver was unharmed. These incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of driving carefully and ensuring vehicles are properly equipped in freezing conditions.
