An incident has shaken the small town of Thoiras, in the Gard, on Wednesday 21 February 2024. A house was destroyed by fire near the edge of a forest in the Gard. The blaze was marked by explosions. It required the deployment of a large rescue team, although, fortunately, no lives were lost.
At around 6.30 pm, an alert was raised regarding a fire in a 50 m² inhabited shed. This prompted a rapid response from 22 firefighters from SDIS 30. The firefighters, faced with a fire that had already spread throughout the entire property, had to act swiftly to evacuate the three occupants of the house. The challenge lay not only in extinguishing the fire but also in preventing it from spreading to the neighbouring woodland, highlighting the significant risks to the local environment. Furthermore, according to the fire brigade’s initial findings, the fire is believed to have been caused by a wood-burning stove.
The fire proved fatal for one animal
Among the victims of this tragedy was a dog, a member of the family who lived in the shed, which did not survive. This incident serves as a reminder of how vulnerable our pets are in such circumstances.
The fire was finally brought under control, and the fire brigade carried out a thorough inspection of the site, which had been completely destroyed by the flames.
