The update at 10 pm
- Cause of the fire : A fire broke out at around 5.00 pm on 3 July 2024 in the town of Rivesaltes, on the Quai des Mouettes.
- Adverse weather conditions : The tramontane is blowing strongly, with gusts reaching 60 km/h, thereby increasing the risk of fire in several areas of the Pyrénées-Orientales and fanning the flames in Rivesaltes.
- Spread of the fire : The fire is now reported to have been brought under control, though the cause remains unknown.
- Deployment of emergency services : Around 120 firefighters, divided into three forest fire response teams (GIFF) and a water supply team, were mobilised to bring the fire under control and ensure the water supply to the fire engines.
- Current situation : No homes have been affected and it is recommended that people avoid the area.
