A departure from vegetation fire broke out late on Friday afternoon in a particularly dry cypress hedge on the outskirts of the suburban neighbourhood of Les Parons, in Aix-en-Provence. The incident, which was visible from several roads, had mobilised forty firefighters from SDIS 13 and eleven vehicles in order to contain the flames and ensure the safety of neighbouring homes.

On arrival at the scene, the emergency services found that the blaze had already spread to a attached garage to a house. No casualties have been reported so far.

Rapid spread between vegetation and buildings

The highly flammable resin from the cypress trees probably acted as a natural accelerant, causing the garage to burst into flames before the fire was fully under control. According to our information, the emergency services were still on the scene at 5.30 pm.
