firefighters are intervening

The fire currently burning in Palaja continues to require significant emergency response resources.

📍 As of now:

The flames have swept through more than 100 hectares.

280 firefighters are on the scene.

12 aircraft have been deployed to fight the fire.

30 gendarmerie officers are on duty to ensure public safety.

🚧 The A61 highway is closed in both directions between Carcassonne East and Carcassonne West. Evacuations are underway, particularly at the Auriac and Belvédère rest areas.

🏠 Approximately 100 people have been evacuated as a precaution from the town of Cazilhac at the mayor’s initiative and are being directed to city hall.

Adverse weather conditions are causing the fire to spread rapidly.

‼️Departmental Road RD42 is closed to traffic at the Charlemagne High School roundabout.
