For several days now, the Drôme is facing a major fire in the Die massif, where the flames have already spread 1,400 hectares. During the night of Monday 6 to Tuesday 7 July, the three fire fronts remained active by late Tuesday morning, despite the efforts of the emergency services.
Homes have been secured and evacuations are under way
Firefighters, deployed in large numbers, worked through the night to protect homes in Montmaur-en-Diois and Barsac. Nearly 250 residents of these two villages were evacuated on Monday evening following a decision by Prefect Marie-Aimée Gaspari, for an as yet undetermined period. The 400 firefighters deployed to the scene are beginning their sixth day of battling the flames on Tuesday, with the possibility of further reinforcements.
Deteriorating air quality and disrupted networks
The large plumes of smoke have led to a temporary deterioration in air quality, although they do not pose an immediate health risk, according to the prefecture. Vulnerable and sensitive individuals are advised to stay at home, avoid physical activity and limit their movements. It is also recommended that they keep doors and windows closed.
The fire also affected a TDF pylon in the Justin massif, disrupting the Orange and Bouygues Télécom networks. Orange teams are on the ground to assess the damage once the site has been secured. This is the most serious fire in the department in 30 years.
