Whilst numerous fires are keeping emergency services busy across France, the Minister of the Interior, Laurent Nuñez, has announced the arrest of several people suspected of starting the fires.
“32 people suspected of starting fires have been arrested in 22 departments,” the minister said on the social media platform X.
Meanwhile, the fire service is continuing to battle several major fires, particularly in the Pyrénées-Orientales and the Drôme. Since the start of the year, more than 25,000 hectares have already been consumed by the flames.
The heatwave expected in the coming hours could further increase the risk of fire and make the work of the emergency services more difficult.
In this particularly worrying situation, personal responsibility, vigilance and compliance with preventive measures are more essential than ever.
Earlier this morning, the President of the Republic, Emmanuel Macron, had also posted a message of support and appreciation for the firefighters working on the ground.
