This summer of 2026, firefighters across France – both professional and volunteer – are battling large-scale forest fires affecting several regions. Their commitment and dedication have been praised by TotalEnergies, which has announced concrete measures to support them in their work.
Reimbursement of fuel costs for the emergency services
In a press release, the oil company TotalEnergies announces that it will cover the cost of the land and aviation fuels required by fire services in mainland France, from 1 July to 31 August 2026. This initiative takes the form of donations in the form of credit balances to departmental and national fire services, enabling the rescue to be supplied with fuel for their land-based and airborne assets, such as Canadairs and Dash aircraft.
To organise this support, TotalEnergies is working closely with departmental authorities (SDIS) for land-based resources and the Civil Protection Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior for air-based resources. This initiative aims to facilitate the work of firefighters on the ground, where every minute counts.
200 volunteer firefighters made redundant by TotalEnergies
Among TotalEnergies’ employees, nearly 200 volunteer firefighters are stepping up to help fight the fires. The company has decided to grant these volunteers time off, whilst continuing to pay their salaries and without deducting any holiday entitlement, so that they can lend a hand to the teams working on the front line of the fires.
This measure demonstrates the company’s solidarity with civil protection personnel, whose commitment is crucial to protecting people and communities. Since the start of the summer, the TotalEnergies Group has also prioritised the supply of fuel to the fire and emergency services.
