The fire has now been extinguished. The A75 highway is fully reopened in the direction of Clermont-Ferrand and partially reopened (right lane closed) toward Béziers. Most of the emergency personnel have left the scene. A few firefighters remain on site to prevent the fire from reigniting.

The Pas de l’Escalette Tunnel has reopened in the Montpellier–Millau direction.

The fire is still burning in the area around Saint-Félix-de-l'Héras. The A75 highway, located on the edge of the fire, remains closed, with heavy traffic in both directions. The aerial resources deployed are still in action (3 Canadair aircraft / 1 Dash aircraft). The situation remains complex, as the fire is still not under control.

The Pas de l'Escalette Tunnel is closed until at least tomorrow morning.

Early Friday afternoon, August 14, a fire in a passenger vehicle sparked a wildfire in Pégairolles-de-l’Escalette, on the A75 highway in northern Hérault, in the immediate vicinity of the Escalette Tunnel. Emergency responders deployed significant aerial and ground resources. About twenty firefighters were deployed, along with a water-bombing helicopter and several ground and aerial assets, including three Canadair aircraft. Two departmental aircraft and a command helicopter were also mobilized. The area affected by the flames is estimated at 10 hectares at this stage.
