A fire flared up again with great intensity on Friday afternoon in the town of Poussan, in theHérault, which has already spread across around 100 hectares of vegetation consisting mainly of kermes oaks and pines. The spread of the flames, fuelled by a moderate wind, has required a massive mobilisation of emergency services.
Enhanced measures to contain the flames
Given the scale of the disaster, three units were deployed, bringing together nearly 250 firefighters on the ground. Their mission: to prevent the fire from spreading and to protect the areas at risk. The operations are being supported by aerial resources, with the deployment of aircraft Air Tractor and a Dash from the Civil Protection service, who are carrying out aerial water drops to slow the spread of the flames and support the teams on the ground. The fire is spreading northwards, towards the Aumelas plateau and Villeveyrac; hundreds of hectares are under threat.
A situation under close scrutiny
The situation remains tense, with increased monitoring by the authorities. Weather conditions, characterised by moderate winds, are hampering fire-fighting operations. This fire is part of a wider resurgence of fires in the south of France, particularly in the Var where evacuations are currently taking place, and in Nouvelle-Aquitaine on the fires in Biscarrosse and Saumos , where significant resources are also being deployed.
