A fire that has been burning for several days continues to keep emergency services on their toes in the Luglon area, in the Landes. Thanks to favourable weather conditions, the fire brigade has been able to contain the spread of the fire, which has already covered 1,700 hectares. Although the fire has not yet been brought under control, operations are continuing efficiently.
Surveys carried out throughout the day by the security and emergency services have enabled several areas to be secured. In coordination with Philippe Sartre, the mayor of Garein, and on the technical advice of the Landes Fire and Rescue Service and the gendarmerie, the prefect has authorised residents to return to certain areas now deemed safe.
Partial reopening and ongoing restrictions
From 8.00 pm today, around 50 people will be able to return to their homes in the areas marked in green within the municipality of Garein, under the supervision of the police. The areas concerned are as follows:
- Zones 10 and 11 West Garein: south of track 304 (Lagouardoune – Lagrolet) and east of the junction of track 304 and Route de Luglon.
Furthermore, the RD834 between Sabres and Garein has been reopened to traffic. However, the RD327 and the RD14 remain closed due to ongoing operations. The authorities would like to remind the public that the other evacuated areas remain inaccessible and urge people to strictly follow the instructions to ensure everyone’s safety.
As the situation continues to develop, residents are urged to keep up to date via official channels and to follow the instructions of the emergency services. The teams from the Landes Fire and Rescue Service are remaining on high alert to prevent the fire from reigniting.
