The fire that has been raging for several days in Biscarrosse, in the Landes region, continues to require significant human and material resources. The flames, which are still active mainly in the north-east (the road from Bordeaux towards Sanguinet) and south-east (towards Parentis), have already spread across between 3,400 and 3,500 hectares.
A more favourable situation, but not yet under control
Whilst the situation has improved compared with yesterday, the fire has not yet been brought under control. The authorities state that resources remain focused primarily on protecting peri-urban areas, in order to secure the homes under threat as quickly as possible. Firefighters, supported by the security forces and municipal teams, are working tirelessly to assess the affected areas and prepare for the gradual return of residents as soon as conditions allow.
Over 30,000 people evacuated
Since yesterday evening, the entire municipality of Parentis-en-Born and the southern part of Sanguinet have been evacuated, bringing the number of displaced people to over 30,000. At this stage, no one is permitted to return home, but the authorities plan to organise returns in successive waves, depending on how the fire develops and subject to approval from the emergency services.
Firefighters, on the front line, are deploying targeted strategies to contain the flames and protect residential areas. Their coordinated efforts with other services suggest that the situation may gradually improve, although vigilance remains essential.
