A heatwave that creates the perfect conditions for fires
With 60 departments on orange heatwave alert, with nearly 41 million people affected, France is facing a spell of intense heat. According to Météo-France, these conditions significantly increase the risk of forest and bush fires, well above the usual summer levels.
High temperatures, combined with a dry air and occasionally strong winds, create an environment that is particularly conducive to the spread of flames. The authorities are calling for utmost vigilance, particularly in wooded areas and sensitive natural habitats.
Risk trends on Sunday
Whilst the Allier is expected to return to moderate risk from Sunday, the Var and Vaucluse will remain in orange alert, with the danger continuing. Residents and holidaymakers are advised to follow the safety instructions and to avoid any risky behaviour (open fires, throwing away cigarette ends, etc.).
