The fires in Gironde have now destroyed more than 10,000 hectares, with the worst feared in the coming days

Four days after the fires broke out, the forest continues to burn in the south of the Gironde, particularly in La Teste-de-Buch, in the Arcachon basin, and in Landiras and Guillos. Since Tuesday evening, 10,150 hectares have been destroyed by the flames, including 7,000 in Landiras and 3,150 in La Teste.

"The situation is set to remain difficult over the next two to three days" Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Mandousse, communications officer for the Gironde Fire Service, warned on franceinfo on Saturday morning.

Whilst the situation has stabilised in La Teste-de-Buch and Cazaud, a little further away in Landiras and Guillos, the fire continues to spread. It is this fire that is causing the greatest concern for the fire brigade, according to reports France Bleu Gironde. "The situation is very unfavourable", according to the Gironde Prefecture.

Since Tuesday, it has already destroyed 7,000 hectares. "It’s a fire measuring ten kilometres by nine", explains Lieutenant-Colonel Arnaud Mandousse. "The situation regarding this fire remains very complex".
