Every day until the end of the scheme Forest fires, Civil Protection in France can rely on a force of 10,000 firefighters and rescue workers to respond to various types of forest and wildland fires. This force comprises 51 fire service reinforcement units, comprising 3,500 men and women and 650 rescue workers from the Civil Protection’s military units.

In addition to this force, the Hephaestus plan allows for the mobilisation of up to 150 army personnel for specific operations. As part of its fire-fighting efforts, the Civil Protection Service also has 12 Canadair, 9 Dash and 3 Beechcraft aircraft, which are specialised in fighting forest fires.

In addition, up to ten water-bombing helicopters and four Air Tractors can be deployed to fight fires. These aerial resources provide significant support to firefighters on the ground, enabling them to extinguish fires more quickly. Thanks to this force and these resources, the civil protection service is able to respond rapidly and effectively to protect people and property from fires.
